These are photos from our wonderful, music filled, 2019 Easter Service at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Canonsburg. - It was such a beautiful service!! We welcome all to experience our community on any Sunday with our church family and Canon Cathy Brall, who is not to be missed!!
We had a blessed day at St. Thomas Episcopal Church-Canonsburg celebrating Rocco's baptism on April 28th! - As you can see, this young man will grow up loved and strong with such a supportive and loving family. - Such a beautiful day at St. Thomas for Rocco and his family!
We would like to let all of our ST. THOMAS, CANONSBURG friends know about our UPCOMING HOLY WEEK SERVICES. - Our Maundy Thursday service will be held on APRIL 18TH, beginning at 6:30pm and concluding between 8:00pm-8:30pm. - We will be offering a CREATIVE AND ACTIVE worship experience with Holy Communion in our Parish Hall, followed by a full dinner and ending with a time of prayer and the stripping of the Altar in the sanctuary. Please contact St. Thomas at (724) 745-2013 if you would like to attend. - Good Friday Worship will be held on April 19th at 7:00pm in the sanctuary. - And, Easter Sunday Service will be held on April 21st at 10:00am in the sanctuary. - We welcome you all to visit our wonderful church and join us for our Holy Week activities.
We had a wonderful service at St. Thomas, Canonsburg this past Sunday, March 17th. - It was highlighted twofold, by a visit from Bishop Dorsey McConnell, Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, and a parish confirmation service! - We are so proud of Emma, Morgan, and Hattie! Congratulations to all of you from your St. Thomas family!

We at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Canonsburg, have been blessed with the musical talents of Katie Phelps during our Sunday worship. - For years, she has brilliantly played the piano, and sang with her husband, Chris, which added such beauty and grace to our Sunday services. - God has other plans for Katie as she is moving on to brighter and bigger opportunities to showcase her wonderful talents. - Her entire St. Thomas family wishes her success and the best that life can offer in her new job. We love you Katie, and will miss you! We wanted to make you aware of one of our Outreach Projects we have been blessed to share with some of our local teenagers this spring. - Once a month, several St. Thomas Episcopal Church members, along with food provided by the Greater Washington County Food Bank, host a dinner with all the fixin's at the Canonsburg Armory Youth Center. The Youth Center is led by a wonderful man, JR Gardner, Canonsburg's ministry site director for Metro Pittsburgh Youth for Christ. - The dinner is served "Family Style" to thirty-plus hungry middle schoolers along with adult sponsors. The meals consist of either oven roasted turkey or ham, vegetables, potatoes, rolls, and dessert. The plates of food are passed around the tables which inevitably sparks conversations among the guests. It is wonderful to see! - One of the best parts of dinner is that JR asks for the dinner guests to "put your phones away", this is time to be spent talking face to face, not with our faces in a phone!! - There is always so much excitement in the air! The teens are always so appreciative and thankful that it's difficult not to serve them with tears in our eyes as we are so thankful for this experience. - The teens have shared endearing stories with us, like one child who never had stuffing before, another had never tasted cranberry sauce, and two more never had ham! - The St. Thomas “kitchen staff” always makes extra food to fill the stomachs of growing teens and it is an amazing experience for all in attendance. - After dinner, the teens help us clear the tables (so kind!) and never forget to thank all the volunteers who assisted with the dinner. The room is always filled with many smiles, full tummies and very thankful hearts!
We wanted to share something very special with everyone. During a cleanup of our cluttered basement, one of our parishioners came upon a beautiful processional cross in a corner. - After a quick cleanup, we were able to decipher the words inscribed on the cross: - "For All Thy Saints at Rest Presented to St. Thomas Church Easter 1914 by F.W. Townrow, Jr." - We were able to find out some very cool history about the cross. - In 1914, the city of Canonsburg was in the middle of a population boom, having doubled their population between 1910-1920. This also led to an increase in parishioners of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and allowed the formation of well-trained choir. - For Easter of 1914, Mr. Townrow cut and polished a new processional cross and handmade handle for the special Easter service and to celebrate the success of the newly formed choir. - The cross was dedicated at the Easter service on April 12th, 1914 and led the procession down the aisle of St. Thomas: "To All Thy Saints Who From Thy Labors Rest". - The cross is in the process of being displayed in the music section of the church.
